The task was to renovate the existing building of the students’ hostel of the HBLA (Höhere Bundeslehranstalt – Higher Federal Teaching Institute) Pitzelstätten and to adapt its functionality so as to meet the current pedagogical standards. Furthermore, an add-on was to be constructed, which should mirror the building’s context both in terms of functionality and urban architecture.

As regards the urban planning prerequisites, the basic situation was an existing building complex from the 1960s, which was built around the castle of Pitzelstätten in its centre, a building listed as a protected historic monument. Today the latter serves as the school’s head office and administration building.
