In order to meet with the requirements of light-weight loft conversion, the entire conversion was carried out under preservation of the existing outline and structures. Only dormer windows and a small terrace were cut in. The existing rafters were removed and reused, provided that it was possible to employ them inside for reinforcing the remaining bearing structure of the mansard roof, thus balancing the total load and optimising the material employment.
With regard to material authenticity, the visible surfaces were strictly kept in wood, concrete and Eternit.
Especially noteworthy in this project is the innovative energy concept in the attic in the form of an individual heating and cooling system for this construction unit, located in the walls and the floor and powered by a heat pump and solar collectors.
