The commission awarded by the owner and contractor was to plan three apartments in the building’s attic. Contemporary elements should be created and integrated into the surrounding area. By introducing a cube which accentuates the corner of the building, a typology was further developed which had its origin in the corner solutions of the Wilhelminian style town houses. The lightness of the box, floating above the untouched main cornice, is additionally supported by a structure of metal mesh covering the box. During daylight this gives the surfaces and edges a soft-focus effect, while during the night it filters the brightness of the artificial light emerging from the cube.
