The essential design approach for this large educational building in the urban development area Neues Landgut in Vienna-Favoriten was to provide a maximum of open spaces with a building structure that is as compact as possible. Two generous roof gardens on the first and the fifth floor compensate for the relatively small open spaces at ground level caused by the limited size of the building site. Open staircases create vertical access possibilities and important functional connections between the individual open areas on and around the building. The surrounding balcony slabs provide a horizontal structure to the building and are also used for a sustainable energy concept. The building configuration makes it possible to clad the structure with a "green vertical" envelope. Partly ground bound, partly through plant troughs in the upper floors, climbing plants grow upwards along climbing aids. For the protruding terrace areas, the vertical greening provides valuable shading particularly in summer and protects the building from summer overheating, especially on the south façade. In addition, the façade greenery also acts as a dust and noise filter, improves the microclimate, contributes to the creation of space and awards the Education Campus an identity-creating characteristic in the "Green Quarter", as this area is defined in their corresponding urban development guidelines.

The arrangement of the individual educational areas, in conjunction with the development zones, creates spatial synergies that facilitate cross-year and cross-class encounters
and thus promote active cooperation and learning from each other. The rooms and their furnishings should encourage the children to actively interact with the space surrounding them and to create, also on their own initiative and stimulated by the possibility of diverse constellations and usage scenarios, an environment for all-day living, learning and playing, depending on the respective circumstances and needs.

The project is planned, presented and simulated as a pilot project entirely as Open BIM.

Extract from the jury's report: The project convinces with a clear urban planning disposition and succeeds in precisely embedding the campus building into the local structure. The configuration of the building, which is derived from simple symmetries, reacts skilfully in the heights, dimensions and not least the offset of the west side wing to all relevant parameters of the surrounding existing structure. Above all, the project reflects the adjacent residential building on the south side. ... The educational requirements are well met by the successful arrangement of the functional elements. In the configuration of the educational areas, the differentiated arrangement of the multifunctional areas and their optimal allocation to the educational rooms are given particularly positive acclaim. Open spaces directly assigned to the individual levels throughout the project are praised as a key strength of the project. …“
